The Technology and Society

In this article, we are looking at how technology and society a mixed together. On page 2, it states that television has altered our world. This is definitely true, especially for me. I go through personality phases and do things based on what I see on TV sometimes. When I was in the 8th grade, I began getting into rap music. So, I started watching the BET channel where I would watch movies and a lot of music videos. Because I thought society was being molded and headed into this kind of violence and promiscuous world, I began to dress like the rappers I would see in these videos. Often the case, young children are easy influenced and molded by what they see being depicted on TV, but is not limited to only them. The need for news led to the development of the press. Without the press, where would we find out news about what is going on today locally, in society, in the state, in the country, or even around the world. I depend on the news to see what new and exciting things are happening, and as well to keep up to date on world issues.

  1. I definitely agree that yes, television has altered our world as a whole. I remember watching Spice World with the Spice Girls and because I was such a huge fan of the Spice Girls and Baby Spice that I would wear my hair like hers and wear t-shirts just like her. I definitely agree with you that yes, the minds of younger children are definitely being molded with what they see on the television. I also agree that being influenced by the t.v goes with everyone and not just young minds. I like you, also like seeing new and exciting things going on in the world from the t.v.

  2. Television has been a big influence on my childhood as well. A lot of social interaction early on was based on what was seen on TV, and if I didn't keep up with the latest awards show or (more recently) reality show or competition, I would be out of the loop. Television has shaped society in how news is reported and how entertainment is presented. Press, music, documentaries, etc. have all been molded through the medium of television, and entire businesses and industries rely on it. However, times are changing, and people are watching and consuming their content away from the traditional TV set, and the industry is still figuring out how to respond without losing the revenue it’s so used to getting.
