HS Tech Wiz

Thomas Sohmers, the 15-year-old computer whiz who hacks defunct tablet computers for fun, also collaborates on military technology concepts with MIT, and wants to start his own company. Sohmer’s first project began at age 6, when he worked with his father to make a new plastic outer shell combining his Sega Genesis and Super Nintendo gaming systems. Sohmers is tackling a more ambitious projects such as “porting” HP’s recently discontinued and the mark-down TouchPad tablet to Google's Andriod operating system. But Sohmer’s ultimate dream is to start his own business. “Ideally, I’d like to start a computer company,” he said. “I have a real fascination with wearable computers and augmented reality.” Wow, this is simply amazing to read about. This young genius will do remarkable things in his life, and I cannot wait to see what will come from his brilliance. But, with his genius putting a helping hand to MIT military technology we can only hope nothing changes his mindset and he turns his knowledge into a bad thing.

  1. This is the second article response that I have read in regards to hacking. Obviously, hacking is an issue and is everywhere.
This article touches on a few points where the others do not. Most surprisingly, the hacker is a 15 year old that has enormous ambitions. One thought that came to mind is that the hacking that is done by this amazing 15 year old has actually become an educational tool for him. It has helped his development as a computer whiz. I feel for kids that have high aspirations. Attending MIT and starting his own company are just two examples that there are kids out there that are doing well. We hear of so many children that are the opposite now days. The hacking part can almost be forgiven when after this article is read. Thanks for posting.
